Deconstruction Services in Vancouver and Vancouver Island
Reducing waste, recovering materials, and preparing your site with care.
Traditional demolition sends most of a building to the landfill. Deconstruction takes a different path. We carefully dismantle structures so that usable materials, especially old-growth wood, are protected, recovered, and put back to work.
On average, we can save more than 80 percent of a building from landfill. In older homes, that often includes rare lumber that would otherwise be lost.
The District’s Demolition Waste Reduction Bylaw targets older single-family homes and aims to reduce waste, while supporting a shift toward a circular economy.
If your home was built before 1950, here’s what you’ll need to comply:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Wood Salvage Estimate | 3.5 kg or 2.6 board-feet of reclaimed lumber per square foot of finished floor area. |
| Permit Requirements | Submit a one-page wood salvage plan, pay a $250 admin fee, and provide a $15,000 waste-diversion deposit . |
| Post-Project Documentation | Within 90 days of completion, you must submit a compliance report, original receipts, weight bills, and any other records . |
| Deposit Refunds | Up to 100% of the deposit is refundable depending on salvage performance . |
